BMW i: All Electric Engines
BMW i makes its debut with the i3. Powered by an electric motor combined with an innovative lithium-ion battery, the i3 accelerates from 0 – 60 in approximately 7 seconds. The BMW i8, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, races from 0 – 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. Its 131-hp electric motor powers the front wheels, while a 231-hp three-cylinder gasoline engine turns the rear wheels. Capable of 22 miles of all-electric driving using its lithium-ion battery, it achieves a total average fuel consumption of 94 mpg.
