Diesel Engines

2.0-Liter, TwinPower Turbo Diesel 4-Cylinder Engine, 180 hp

BMW’s 2.0-liter, TwinPower Turbo Diesel, 4-cylinder engine produces 180 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, available from 1,750 rpm. Its 8-speed automatic transmission makes going 0 – 60 mph in just over seven seconds routine. And with a highway fuel economy of 45 mpg, its vigorous performance is matched in fuel efficiency.

3.0-Liter, TwinPower Turbo Diesel 6-Cylinder Engine, 255 hp

BMW TwinPower Turbo technology ensures an exemplary balance of driving pleasure and fuel consumption across the engine range. In the new diesel engine, technology like a variable-geometry turbocharger and High Precision Direct Fuel Injection with solenoid valve injectors come standard. And, this 3.0-liter engine develops a maximum output of 255-hp, generating a peak torque of 413 lb-ft.

The consistent implementation of BMW EfficientDynamics ideas is again evident in the BMW TwinPower Turbo diesel engines. They are made in lightweight aluminum construction and use variable turbine geometry, which permits more efficient use of exhaust heat energy. This results in the turbo engine performing like a much larger aspirated engine and achieving this special performance with lowered consumption. The common rail injection system guarantees optimum combustion. An important characteristic of this system is that the injection pressure can be created autonomously of the speed of the engine and the amount injected. Combined with a powerful control unit and injection nozzles, this markedly reduces consumption and emissions and increases running smoothness. A fully-variable performance control and the unique turbocharging technology round off the innovation package with less space and weight. In total, these diesel engines offer typical BMW torque with low consumption – a unique combination of efficiency and dynamics. Powerful, fast, quiet and fuel-efficient: these are the traits of BMW Advanced Diesel engines. Thanks to BluePerformance Technology, BMW diesel engines meet emissions standards in all 50 states. Managed by a high- performance electronic engine control unit, the turbocharger develops boost and extra power in immediate response to the smallest tap of the accelerator pedal, and stays strong throughout the rev range where you do most of your driving.
