2.0-Liter, TwinPower Turbo Inline 4-Cylinder Engine, 240 hp
Small is the next big idea in engines – namely, BMW’s mighty inline 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo. Displacing just 2.0 liters, this 240-hp marvel generates 255 lb-ft of torque at just 1250 rpm, for potent thrust that kicks in right from the start and continues all the way up to 4800 rpm. Lightweight and smooth-running, it incorporates BMW’s award-winning High Precision Direct Injection, Valvetronic and double-VANOS technologies. Its dynamic performance is equaled by spectacular fuel efficiency, taking you further on every gallon of gas.
3.0-Liter, TwinPower Turbo Inline 6-Cylinder Engine, 300 hp
This unique engine combines a twin-scroll TwinPower Turbo, High Precision direct fuel injection, and BMW’s Valvetronic variable intake technology that helps the engine “breathe” better. The result: turbo lag is virtually eliminated, while posting one of the most fuel-efficient ratings in its class. The 6-cylinder Twinpower Turbo develops maximum output of 300 hp at 5800 rpm, redlining at 7000 rpm. Peak torque of 300-lb-ft kicks in almost immediately at 1200 rpm. It continues to push you back in your seat all the way to 5000 rpm.
3.0-Liter, M TwinPower Turbo Inline 6-Cylinder Engine, 425-hp
The powerful 3.0-liter BMW M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine in the all-new M3 Sedan delivers a blistering 425-hp to command. Featuring bi-turbo, high-precision direct injection, Valvetronic and Double-VANOS technology, the engine is capable of a massive 406 lb-ft of torque over a broad rpm range, a nearly 40% increase over previous models. In the spirit of true M racing, you’ll enjoy a 0-60 mph time of a mere 4.1 seconds, dropping to 3.9 seconds when equipped with 7-speed M Double Clutch Transmission.
4.4-Liter, M TwinPower Turbo V-8 Engine, 560-hp
The 560-hp response of the M5’s new 4.4-liter V-8 engine is nearly instantaneous. Double-VANOS infinitely variable camshaft timing and High Precision Direct Injection play in concert with patented Valvetronic individual intake valve control that eliminates the need for a less-efficient throttle plate. The result is another M characteristic: linear, instantaneous delivery of a massive 500 lb-ft of torque over an exceptionally broad rpm range, from idle to high revs. This results in 0-60 mph of just 4.3 seconds.
6.0-Liter TwinPower Turbocharged V-12 Engine, 535 hp
The BMW 760Li gets its high-performance prowess from BMW’s formidable 535-hp, TwinPower Turbocharged V-12. This source of power generates up to 550 lb-ft of torque from as low as 1,500 rpm-and up to 5,000 rpm-yet it’s remarkably quiet and free of vibrations. Feel free to press the accelerator and launch yourself from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.
Three components ensure that the BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engines are capable of achieving the unique relationship between performance and consumption. The innovative valve control Valvetronic (= variable valve and electronic) with Double-Vanos varies the hub of the inlet valve fully. This allows the engine to develop optimum power with less consumption. The Valvetronic also improves the mixture preparation and lowers fuel consumption by up to 10% (BMW internally-determined value based on ECE driving cycle). An additional effect is improved response. Double-Vanos refers to the double variable camshaft control. This system controls the engine performance all across the speed range and enables lower consumption and fewer emissions at any speed. High Precision Injection with its particularly accurate fuel dosage ensures extraordinarily efficient and clean combustion. This derives the maximum amount of energy from every drop of fuel. Innovative turbocharging technology increases the engine’s power and puts it on par with much larger engines – and all this with fewer components, reduced inner friction and low weight. And thus with lower consumption and emissions. Together with the other innovations by BMW EfficientDynamics this allowed a fuel saving of up to 15%, for example, in the BMW 328i Sedan in relation to its predecessor the BMW 325i.
